where do I begin...(guest post)

Hi all - I am Casey, and was asked to write a guest post on here by Rebekah! So it has taken me a long time to figure out what I wanted to write about on this here blog - for those of you who don't know me, I am an old friend of Rebekah's. We shared a locker in high school after only knowing each other a few days or a week (?), and it was love at first sight. I'm so glad that she is finally back into the swing of sewing and crafting as she was so amazing in high school and after, sewing her own clothes, making us all homemade messenger bags and the like...

(Hey - don't forget to comment on my question on the end. You will be entered to win something handmade by Rebekah!)

I, myself, have a hard time calling myself a crafter, but I am definitely a sewer. My perfect day would consist of the following:
-sleeping in until 10:00 (now that I've got a little one I can't remember the last time I slept past 8:00!
-making myself a coffee in my french press with a couple pieces of toast and jam
-spending the rest of the day in my sewing room working on a variety of projects and having my husband (Sal) take care of our little one!

I love sewing. I love finishing something that I can feel and see and use. I love giving away things I have sewn, especially if the receiver uses it. I love people telling me that they would like me to sew something for them. I love hanging up my finished quilts on the wall. I love doll quilts. I love fabric, fabric, and fabric.

I have all kinds of fabric, and I use it for all kinds of projects. Because I am an avid quilter, I have a ton of 100% cottons, and because I am a snob when it comes to my cotton, I only use the best. We use homemade quilts around here so I want them to last. I have close to 10 yards of wool and tweeds sitting on my top shelf, waiting to be made into these scarves. I don't anticipate that they are going to be made anytime soon as they have been sitting unused for probably 5 years. I do have plans to make them into some of these sweet little guys. I also keep a ton of lighter canvas to use as liner for my bags, as well as lots of muslin which I use for everything, including backing for my embroidery projects.

Now I don't know about you other crafters out there (and not just sewers!), but I cannot just work on one thing at a time. I get bored. Things get stagnant. So I always have a ton of things on the go. Here is a list of projects I am working on right now: I am hand quilting (yes - you read that. HAND QUILTING!!) a queen size quilt. Believe it or not, I find it so relaxing to sit down in front of the tv with my quilt in one hand, and a thimble on the other. I am also working on this super cute and sweet block of the month quilt. I mean, so cute. I want to share it with everyone!! I also just put together a table cloth made of patchwork cherry fabric which I am going to finish by tying instead of machine or hand quilting. Reminds me of old quilts made for me by my mom...

So here is my question to you (and remember there are prizes involved!!): if I could sew you anything right now, what would you ask for? A tablecloth? Some curtains? A quilt for you? For your baby? For your wall? I want to know how handmade items would fit into your home.

Thanks for spending some time with me...
casey.
xoxo.

Casey, I have handmade quits by both my grandmothers and my mother. I love them all (although I did end up donating my one of my grandmother quilt's to the Arctic community). If I had to ask for something handmade, it would be a table cloth. How nice to include handmade table cloth and homemade food to feed friends and family!! Sadly, the thimble did fall far from this tree!

Hey Casey - love this blogging stuff!! If I could choose a project it would be a bear quilt for hubby. I have a few of the panel patterns but just need close supervision..... guess I should go and take some formal quilt training by joining a class. Reading about all your projects and ideas inspires me to try..... take care and have a geat 'significant' birthday!!

Love ya!
