I'm Reading The Handmade MarketPlace

Just got home from the bookstore and I'm very excited to start reading The Handmade Marketplace by Kari Chapin. I'm trying to be a sponge and soak up everything I can to help me with my business planning.

Besides the cute cover, the book is small so it will be easy to tuck into my bag and take with me wherever I go.

After I read the first chapter I'm going to finish cleaning my studio space so I can get to work on stocking up for the Bayou Boogaloo next weekend! The New Orleans Craft Mafia will be there doing a recycle your t-shirt event so stop by with an old t shirt and we'll show you how to make a bag, skirt, or halter top.

If you have any recomendations for books that you've found inspiring or helpful for your business or spurring you onto more creative things I'd love to know what they are!

Hey Rebekah! I found you via the 52 Weeks forum. How are you liking the Handmade Marketplace? I've been on the fence about picking it up.

Hi Brandi,
The Handmade Market Place seems like a good nuts and bolts reference and how to guide for crafters who know they love to make things and might want to sell them but maybe don't have their minds made up yet. Not that I'm an expert, but I have an Etsy shop and a few craft fairs under my belt and have been selling to friends for a long time so the book is a little Basic for me. The reason I bought it was because I heard Kari Chapin's interview on the Craftsanity pod cast and loved her story and want to support her. I'm also the kind of reader that doesn't start at page one and work my way through straigh to the end, so I'm sure I'll glean some good advice from the book but at a glance I haven't learned anything I didn't already know. Check out the podcast interview here http://craftsanity.com/2010/03/craftsanity-episode-113-getting-down-to-handmade-business-with-author-kari-chapin/

I will be blogging about more books that I am reading and love. Thanks for stopping by!
